THE GORROW EFFECT

I’ve just come back from a visit home to Sydney and was lucky enough to spend time with friends and family who I wished lived closer to me in New York.

One of those people is Gary Gorrow. I’ve known him for over 15 years now and I have watched him grow into such an inspirational force. I spent an afternoon catching up with Gary while I was home and what I love most about great friends like him is that it feels like time has never passed. Whether you see them every two days or two years, you pick up right where you left off.

Gary is living an inspired dream with his incredible family and I’m proud to call him a close friend. Read his profile below and be sure to check out his websites: www.garygorrow.com and www.consciousclub.com

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //
“My passion is to help people grow and evolve. I’ve discovered that part of my gift is teaching people to live from the level of their Being. That idea can seem rather abstract, but it essentially means living from that place above and beyond their minds. It’s founded on the timeless wisdom that there’s something more profound to life than our minds, that is of course our very consciousness. My personal purpose is to live from that level myself. When I do this life takes care of itself, everything unfolds as if in accord with a higher order.”

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //
“Lots of different things actually. I’m organising a Conscious Club festival and events. I’m working on setting up Conscious Club in LA, London, Canada, San Francisco. In concert with this I’m also regularly training people in the art of Vedic Meditation; organising retreats around the country; and I’ve just started an intensive training for a group of my finest students who are on the path to become teachers.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //
“We’re all familiar with the expression ‘actions speak louder than words’, and there is a great truth to this statement. But I have also come to appreciate that consciousness rules the day; our words and our actions are shaped by our level of consciousness.

In my line of work I’ve found that I’m only really effective at effecting positive change when I am operating from a higher place. So first and foremost I do what I can to cultivate inner balance and connectedness with my inner being. When I operate from this level I feel myself becoming more transparent to the needs of the world around me. Great ideas dawn inside me. My ego is kept out of the way and I become an excellent servant for change. The key is for people to get the inner right because we are truly magnetic to what ever is happening within us.”

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //
The Conscious Club was created for that exact reason. My buddy Tim Brown and I realised that society is changing and people have become increasingly tired of going to the same old pubs and clubs, yelling at each other for a number of hours, before coming home with nothing to show for it except a hoarse voice, empty wallets and a hangover! So we thought lets create a club where people can have a fun night out and get enlightened at the same time.

The Club is all about creating conscious community through the medium of what we refer to as ‘enlighter-tainment’. Each Conscious Club event intelligently weaves together a message with enlightening entertainment of all genres including uplifting live music, films that provide insight into the human condition, knowledge presentations from some of the world’s thought leaders, the rare opportunity to to be in the presence of hundreds of meditating minds, the sharing of a delicious vegetarian feast and a vibrant social exchange.

We now found ourselves with a rapidly growing community here in Australia and there are calls for it across the globe which we are working on to make a reality. I describe the Conscious Club as TED, MTV unplugged, a meditation ashram, hip bar (albeit a non-alcoholic one) all rolled into one. We’re like the Dalai Lama meets The Rolling Stones –  that’s the Conscious Club.”

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //
“Well I’ve been meditating for so long now that I find my headspace is generally clear and balanced. I used to have big ambitions and big visions. But what I realise now more than ever is the importance of simply being present. How insulting it is to ignore creation for the idea that the future is supreme to the now. More and more that’s where my headspace is directed to these days – attuning with the sacredness of each waking moment. I find the creative pursuits and ideas come in and around that silence organically. I’ve taken a back seat to ambition and allow Nature to organise me rather than allow my ego to mobilise me. I find more and more that I am developing this quality of being able to sit in witnessing awareness, to observe myself, my actions, my mind and to live from my being. It’s a nice headspace to be in.”

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //
“My wife is French and I’m a minimalist. Our home tends to reflect an integration of those two elements. There’s a lot of natural timber and white finishes. I love white and we’ve done all we could with our home to create an open plan living. The living room flows out to the beautiful sunny garden. We have a veggie patch and lots of fruit trees – although they’ve yet to mature. It’s five minutes to walk to the beach so that is the secret from me. I could live in a tent as long as I’m by the ocean. Surfing is my mecca. We also have two small kids so it’s almost impossible to keep the house tidy for longer than five minutes. Besides the wrecking ball factor they bring to the home, our kids create an air of love and play. I love that energy in our home. It’s so precious.”

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //
“Many things! The natural world, when you look closely at the way and structure of things you see it is the work of such a supreme artist. Kindness and generosity inspires me. People who are passionate. People who believe in something. People who spend their energy developing a craft or a talent and become masters of it. People who devote their life energy to a purpose beyond themselves. When I get around people like that I find myself aflame with spirit. It makes me want to do more with my life. To become the best possible example of myself I can be.”

THE KIYA EFFECT

I met Kiya at one of her fitness classes in Tulum that I attended on a recent trip. Demi Moore was attending the class as well! Kiya’s energy and passion for what she does is incredible. One of my favorite things in life is meeting passionate people and Kiya is most certainly a fitness force.  I was so inspired by her I approached her after the class.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //
My purpose in life is to inspire and motivate powerful women to step fully into their truth and own their “bad ass-ness” with courage, grace and humility.

I am passionate about standing up for the little guy and those who need a strong spokeswomen to represent their causes. That’s why my lifestyle brand WEightless starts with a big WE.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //
Right now I am working on my passion project WEightless Escape – The Ultimate Fitness Adventure series of workout dvds and downloads, and a choose-your-own-adventure fitness book to accompany them. As a human movement scientist I strive to make living fit and lean a fun and inspiring ride.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //
Music has a huge effect on me. I use music to express the things I can’t put into words. Part of my WEightless Escape project is creating music tracks that inspire movement with subtle auditory suggestion to inspire powerful and personal transformation.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //
It’s hard to stand alone in a crowd. Especially when you are the new kid on the block. If I know I am going to a family dinner where veal is being served, I show up ready to juice some fresh cocktails and grill one beauty of a veggie plate. It’s my subtle way of saying I believe animals have feelings too.

I look forward to volunteering again with the Christown YMCA in Phoenix, AZ this spring. I love teaching dance to children. They are so willing to discover their bodies through movement. This sets a foundation for a lifetime of fitness, health and fun.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //
Hahahaha! Trying to talk less and listen more. I move my body a lot every day, eat from the earth, love people – especially the women I am friends with and work with – who have a desire to be amazing.  I love to write. I’m sure I am a little or a lot narcissistic because I fucking love facebook and watching myself on video.

My dog Nube (cloud) is my second best friend and my husband James is my first. They remind me that the Beatles were right, “All You Need Is Love” and everything else falls away.

I love designing websites and am on my fourth. GO SQUARESPACE! So far it’s the best ever. My website project includes photography, videography, editing and retouching. It gives me a reason to flex my creative visual muscles. It scratches an itch. www.kiyaknight.com

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //
Quiet, natural and comfortable. Except when I am bumping tunes and designing WEightless Fitness classes in my living room. Our juicer is our health insurance policy so it has a coveted shelf. We juice first thing in the morning everyday so we keep our kitchen stocked with fruit, veg, herbs, ginger and spices. It’s fun mixing and matching flavors. I always feel like a mad scientist in the kitchen.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //
I am inspired by anyone who has the brass balls to stand in their truth and not waiver. I just had the pleasure of instructing fitness classes for the amazing Demi Moore. As I watched her move in class my mind flashed to GI Jane, and her shaved head, and then the magazine cover she did naked and pregnant. I thought of Striptease and her funny, happy, graceful POWER. Having the honour to instruct movement for a strong, sexy hero like Demi was an unbelievable career high for me.

THE LIBBY EFFECT

If I could bottle the essence and energy of Libby Weintraub (formerly McGinley; nickname “Libb’s”),  I would have a potent and powerful potion. She is a dear Aussie mate and I’ve traveled with, and photographed, Libby in Greece and we’ve enjoyed many wild and crazy times together. Enjoy the vision of this remarkable young spirit!

A former fashion model, Libby left home at the age of 16 to travel the world and work with the likes of David Bailey (English Vogue), Isabella Blow (Sunday Times Magazine) and Mario Testino (L’Uomo, Vogue). At the age of 23, deeply unsatisfied with herself, her life and the superficial nature of the industry, she sought out a new direction and turned her attention toward her passions – yoga, nutrition and writing. This path continues to reward her deeply today. It brings her closer to her self and even closer to others. As she so bluntly puts it, she traded in starving and stilettos for a life devoted to spirit and self-awareness.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //
It wasn’t until my early 30’s that I began to understand my purpose in life, as I always seemed to be searching for it outside of myself. As a teenager I used to think my life was about making my parents proud and being successful, and success back then meant having lots of money, working for the best fashion magazines/designers and being famous. (Yikes!)

When I stopped trying to be “somebody” and put an end to looking for my validation in the outside world, I began the process of learning how to love myself and, as a natural extension of that love, my passions began to emerge. Cooking food for others became a way of connecting with my creativity and people; making music and learning the guitar became a way of expressing myself; yoga and fitness were a way of connecting my heart, body and mind. I felt so incredible doing what I loved that I dove into learning more about these passions, and as a result of all of my personal growth, the ‘purpose’ of sharing this with others came into being. I am grateful to work with some wonderful individuals, helping them to open up to the truly nourishing act of self love and self care through yoga, meditation, and healthy living.

“My purpose in life is to love!!!! To love fully, deeply and unconditionally. To reside within my authentic self, to grow creatively and spiritually and through my loving, uplift and inspire others into self-awareness and self love.”

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //
I am co-authoring a book with two very courageous women!

The book is about how healing our disordered view of beauty, body and health leads to self-empowerment and growth, on an individual and collective level.

We look at how the current cultural environment is rife with dehumanizing images of women. The fashion, beauty and health industries (among many) use advertising and imagery to present us with a very cunning, systematically selected, overly airbrushed, ideal of beauty, and this manipulation seeds within our consciousness an idea that is grossly unrealistic and unobtainable. The chronic repercussions this is having on the psyche of women and girls everywhere, is something we wish to alleviate.

In the book we discuss the extremely unique opportunity our culture and upbringing offers us, to wake up and become conscious. Regardless of what we are told or sold, we all have the choice, to know and experience our worth and beauty as something that is sourced from within, not contingent upon our external physical self fitting into some socially acceptable model.

Our book’s message is delivered through a variety of creative mediums, think “Be Here Now” by Ram Das. The most revitalizing aspect being the personal stories of how we learned to turn our suffering into deep self-love. The book contains visually arresting collages and leans heavily into poetic prose exploring our private moments of self-repulsion and self-revelation. We hope to inspire and support women into their healing and loving by sharing our own, and to raise the consciousness of self-love within women.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //

Effecting change in my life comes through a willingness to see where I have stopped growing, learning, loving, and listening. I make a daily routine of asking for the support, guidance and courage I need from Spirit, and others I trust, to move past any blocks on my path. Interestingly enough, it is always the blocks that I have created that bring about an opportunity for the deepest, most profound personal growth and change.

It is usually a fear, or some deep seeded feeling of unworthiness that appears to stop the flow of my life, there fore understanding my mind and rewiring the thoughts and beliefs I hold in there has been critical to me accomplishing and completing what I want in life. The only time I fail to follow through with a project or goal is when I loose touch of its purpose and neglected to address my feelings that sabotage the vision. Thoughts like, “I cannot possibly do it” or feelings like “I’m a total failure” usually stop me in my tracks. The only way I know how to move forward and effect change in the world is by having the courage to address this stuff, other wise it keeps biting me in the ass.

Meditation, therapy, yoga, free flow writing, energy medicine, and group seminars have all helped me find the balance between my inner and outer world. Deep heart felt communication and listening, setting dead lines and being flexible helps me in all of my collaborations with others.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //

I spend time volunteering when I can to causes that really inspire me. My most recent volunteering effort was to help a dear friend and creator of “Music Unites” Michelle Edgar. Music Unites is a 501(c) 3 non-profit, dedicated to bringing music education to underprivileged children in underfunded inner city school systems. They work towards transforming inner city landscapes by empowering urban youth through music.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //

My headspace is always evolving and changing. As I wake up to the power of my thoughts I am ever increasingly aware of their impact on my day-to-day life experience. There are days where my headspace very much mirrors my homespace, sometimes it’s very clean, clear and the windows are wide open in there. These are the days when I find myself enjoying yoga and maybe a walk outside, I am in the flow, get my work done and check things off my list. Some days it’s not so tidy in there, there’s mental dishes in the sink that need cleaning, some clothes that need folding, and plants that need water. It fascinates me how much my external experience often mirrors my inner experience, and how by simply cleaning up my home, clearing out the clutter I can focus on my next big step.

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //

I have just spent the last year and a half fully remodeling a house that my husband and I purchased 2 years ago. The pool just went in, the grass is growing strong but there are still some boxes that need unpacking and rooms to organize. Creating a home takes time; I know it will all come together soon. Life is certainly requiring me to be patient these days. I also realize it’s not the objects in my home that make it a home, but the love, connection and intention shared within its walls.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //
My husband’s overwhelmingly generous love and listening, and his profound respect for life, nature, authentic music and friendship.

My mothers courage and commitment to forgiveness, love, and letting go have allowed her to over come some very powerful and painful life experiences. As a result of her sharing she has grown in awareness and inspired me through her example to do the same, she is a source of strength and inspiration to me.

My father’s love for his children and family, his generosity in helping others touches me profoundly.

My older brothers wildly creative, compassionate, nurturing heart and his skill as a father moves me.

My younger brother completes what ever he sets his mind to and lives his life to the fullest, that inspires me!

My sister-in-law and my nieces remind me that there is magic to be found in the simplest act of kindness, and every waking moment.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //
I believe my purpose is to live a life that inspires others to reach for the stars, live a life with enthusiasm and laugh a lot! I have a passion for summoning the life through me and pushing the boundaries where I can to live an extraordinary life. I’m passionate about creating a life full of amazing experiences and sharing those with others.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //
Our health food business is growing rapidly and is consuming most of my time. I’m enjoying the growth and look forward to more. My role, however, is starting to change as more people come into the business. I’m conscious of needing to evolve myself as a leader and to create an environment which is an inspiring place to work. I love the business, I love our suppliers, I love our customers and our employees. I’m grateful for all that has been created and grateful I have enthusiasm to expand further.

We have just bought a new house and I love the creative process involved in renovating. It feels like a large canvas. I’m passionate about creating a flow of energy within the house that works for our whole family and guests.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //
(1) Set goals: I believe in being clear about what you want. I always set goals. I write them down, and I use pictures to help facilitate the imagination process.

(2) Consistency: I then put them in a place where I can see them everyday, so I can read and see what I am wishing for. I believe that consistency is key, and the more you program your mind to the possibilities the more likely it is to happen.

(3) Conversation with self: I believe the conversation in your own mind about self is critical. You have to be kind to yourself.

(4) Gracious – I believe that being grateful on a daily basis is important to the flow of universal energy.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //
I believe getting involved is the key. Trying to instill a positive way of being in all things that I get involved with.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //
Open to possibilities.

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //
A modern country house with character; a place where all visitors feel at home; a place of laughter, love, light and warmth. The heart of the home between living, dining and kitchen are all integrated and blend with one another. There is an inviting foyer, a fireplace, warm dark floors, modern country kitchen, artwork and large decks to bring you closer to the tall trees surrounding the property that have been growing for many years. I love to entertain and enjoy a layout that allows integration, but separation if required, and a seamless flow. Our home is Feng Shui friendly which is another piece of the equation that supports your headspace.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //
Businesses that redefine their industry; people like Steve Jobs that changed the way we use technology; people like Richard Branson who challenge the norm; people like Nelson Mandela who have incredible resilience; a snow capped mountain that stands there in all its glory, says nothing, is completely still, but so powerful; the ocean, which has the ability to be completely still one day and a raging powerful force the next; James Houston.

The Paula Effect

Paula Hannagan is the co-founder of Bounce Foods, an Australian based food company that specialize in providing high quality, 100% natural foods which are allergy friendly, convenient and tasty. Bounce is committed to providing the fuel which gives people the energy to get the most out of life.

Paula and her husband Andy are two of my favorite people who I met a long time ago in Sydney, when they were both single. Now married, with two beautiful girls, I have been lucky enough to watch them grow as a couple and as a family. They work together to create a positive and loving home, and an amazing life for their family and their community. Love you guys!

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND YOUR PASSION? //
I am incredibly passionate about people and personal growth. I love how life always delivers us exactly what we need to grow and evolve, however joyful or painful it might be at the time. I am passionate about health and all levels of well-being, be it physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I believe my purpose is to be authentic and to connect with others. By listening well and sharing my experiences, I can hopefully make a positive contribution to the lives of others.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //
My personal growth right now is attempting to balance my increasingly hectic work schedule with the needs of my children, my partner and my own need for personal self-expression. I am learning to let go of the need to do it all…to let support in…to find the balance between giving and receiving. It is a work in progress!

On a business level, I am working on finding a way to weave my desire to support the personal growth of others into a format that is compatible with our existing business.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //
My feelings are my monitor for how life is going. When I feel a negative emotion, I am motivated to look at what is going on and what the core issue is. Once I am clear on this, I focus on the change I want to make. I then tend to visualise it, and focus on how I want to feel. I am always amazed at how things begin to change from this point onwards. Solutions begin to emerge and support shows up in unexpected places. I always try to find the learning in every situation, as this helps me feel better about what is happening around me. I believe that by feeling good I will manifest good things.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //
By having integrity, and through my interactions with every person I meet, I hope to make a positive difference in some way. In business, by delivering a strong and inspiring brand message, we hope to shed awareness on the benefits of making healthy food and lifestyle choices and encouraging our consumers to make the most out of life.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //
My optimal headspace is clear, calm and open…not clouded by too much thought. Here I am most connected to my intuition. I get my best creative ideas when my mind is a blank canvas.

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //
We have just bought a house, so I am excited about creating a homespace which is warm and inviting. What’s most important about home to me is the way I feel when I am there. It is definitely about creating a good energy through use of light, space and color. I love earthy colors and I love my home to be sunny, open, spacious and uncluttered with just enough stuff to make it feel cosy. I love artwork displayed on the walls and photos of family on display.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //
My husband, Andy, inspires me with his huge heart, and his creativity, passion and enthusiasm for life. My two daughters inspire me on a daily basis and teach me about what life’s really about. I get so inspired when I see someone who may have had a rough start but has beaten the odds and achieved their goals. I also get inspired whenever I see someone living with purpose and making a difference to the lives of others and the greater community.

THE MARSHALL EFFECT

My life journey has been blessed with so many incredibly inspiring people. Creating these profiles on my friends has been a great experience that reminds me why I have them in my life. James Marshall is a great mate I met in New York about four years ago. James, is the co-owner of a successful NYC restaurant, co-founder of a NYC based charity, has is own consultancy business and is currently in the process of making his first Documentary movie.

Read below and watch out for exciting things in the future from this amazing British chap. I love this pic of James, his beautiful wife Elettra and their dog Happy up at the Lakehouse.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //

Knowing one’s purpose is the ultimate question, and one that is hard to answer.  I believe that perhaps my purpose is to appreciate the limited time I have by maximizing the life that I have been given, to learn how to live with levity, and to give back more than I take.

I have many passions, but they all revolve around going for it!  To challenge my self by doing new things that scare me: moving to a new country, climbing a mountain, running an extreme ultra-marathon, going for a dream job!

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //

So many things! Mainly working on my documentary ‘The Leap’ (working title) about happiness at work…or the lack of it.

I am also preparing to run the toughest footrace in the world: the Marathon of the Sands (Marathon Des Sarbles). It is a 153 mile self-survival race across the Sahara Desert in 125F heat – my goal is to finish it and raise money for a local (NYC) charity.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //
I have a Vision Board. Originally I thought vision boards were just weird. But it has been really fun and it actually works! I write quotes from people that inspire me, pin pictures of things I’d like to see, and do, I add comments and reminders of who I want to be as a man and how I want to be to others; I write my goals for myself and how to achieve them.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //

Doing small things everyday: I smile at the old lady that everyone thinks is a “grumpy old bag”, ask people how they are and then listen to what they say, I look people in the eye and acknowledge them, be kind, and I stay at home when I am in a bad mood.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //
Ever changing! I am understanding more and more about what makes me tick. But, I have more questions now and a thirst for knowledge and answers.

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //

My home is my love nest! A sacred place that is cherished, and full of the things my wife and l love (pictures of good times, travel books from places we’ve visited around the world, comfy cushions on a cozy sofa, big windows and our adorable dog ‘Happy’ who constantly reminds us what relaxation looks like).

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //

I am inspired by the potential that is in front of me, especially here in America. I love those exciting moments when I think to myself, “Wow, I didn’t think I would be here doing this a year ago, what is going to happen in the next year?”

The Steve Jobs commencement speech really inspires me. His words ring true with me and I continue to watch it on YouTube whenever I need a lift.

Finally, the thought of what might be achieved if I just simply everything and just take the next step towards a major goal, this really inspires me. If I look at the next step, rather than the task of climbing the entire mountain, I know I will achieve my goal eventually.

THE ADRIAN EFFECT

Adrian works as a personal trainer at my gym and has become a good mate. When I think of inspiration on all levels, and someone who is truly embracing all the great stuff life has to offer, Adrian comes to mind. I once asked him why he was so happy all the time and he answered, “Because I don’t take life too seriously”.

NAME //
Adrian C. McLean

LOCATION //

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //
To continue to evolve, to grow (mentally, spiritually and emotionally), to learn as much as I can in my time on earth, and to teach, inspire and motivate myself and others with as much integrity, pride, positive energy and truth as humanly possible.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //
Maintaining balance and focus in my pursuit of happiness. As I am sure many people acknowledge that there is always room for growth in all other facets of their life. I feel nothing is possible without continuously working on oneself so that they may be able to effectively and efficiently receive all that life has to offer.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //
I effect change in my life by using seven easy steps:
(1) I start with developing a positive attitude towards said changes. I know a positive attitude alone won’t make me a success but it definitely motivates me to do what I need to do in order to get where I need/want to be.
(2) Maintain a daily exercise regime. Doing so reinforces positive thinking and also keeps me looking and feeling good (which doesn’t hurt!).
(3) I make it a point NOT to multi-task. I find that I am more successful when I can devote my energies towards accomplishing one thing at a time instead of many at once. F
(4) I focus on ONE goal I want to accomplish at a time. That places less stress and pressure on myself to achieve my goals but most importantly allows me to see growth in myself.
(5) Eliminating the non-essentials in my life. That is merely surrounding myself with the things and people that matter the most and subtracting everything else.
(6) Practicing Kindness towards others. This makes me feel better as a person and brings about good karma.
(7) Last is establishing and practicing a daily plan. Having a daily plan to me makes my time spent awake more effective and meaningful.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //
I do so through mentorship programs, community service (mainly through my fraternity) and being the best person I can be.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //
Relaxed…calm…clear…open…with frequent thoughts of home (MIAMI, FL)!

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //
I’d say bachelor pad-esq with a mix of contemporary modern touches all brought together with the charm and character which is me.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //
My parents. To have come from where they have, and accomplished what they have, inspires me every day. Additionally, our president and notable successful entrepreneurs because they are constant reminders that ANYTHING is possible if you want it bad enough and are willing to put in the work to get there.

THE NADS EFFECT

Nadine Bush (nickname Nads) is Creative Director for a multi-disciplinary company specialising in landscape architecture and design, media and product design. She was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and emigrated to Australia at age 7 where she currently still lives.

NAME //
Nadine Bush

LOCATION //

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //
To be the best, most authentic expression of myself that I can be, with as much integrity and joy as I can muster. I feel the way I live my life and express myself through relationship to others, being reverent about everything and living in truth (to the best of my ability) is my own personal ‘art’ that I can share and makes life meaningful to me.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //
Myself (it’s a never-ending process to keep a balanced centre), having fun and enjoying life with my kids, friends, family, my dog, and colleagues at work and also trying to find time to paint. This is something I used to do on a regular basis and I really feel the need to get back to it.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //
Usually I think about the change I want, write about it, meditate on it and then start taking small steps towards making it happen. Big change comes to me first at a ‘feeling’ level…A yearning…Like my soul is tapping me on the shoulder saying get ready, things have to shift and so then what I try to do is be open to seeing what this means and ‘stay out of the way’ and not block the change…Flow with it..try not to struggle too much (I think some struggle is inevitable because we are human)…But then at the point of letting go and relaxing about it all is when the shift can occur and I truly believe that in my own life, in retrospect, everything happens for the best…To bring about your highest good.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //
Just by trying to be a good person and effect everyone I come into contact with in a positive way. I also lobby for change by writing to people and getting involved if it’s something I feel strongly about. I’ve become involved in fundraising for charities that I feel moved to support.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //
Comfortable, honest, warm, positive, calm and peaceful.

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //
Is also comfortable, warm, colourful, interesting, cosy, humble, is sunny and happy with great feng shui. It’s an old apartment and I haven’t done a ‘number’ on it….I prefer fixing things as they break or need to be repaired rather than renovating just for the sake of having everything brand new. The older I get the more I like things that are old; peeling paint, old glass, distressed, crumbly bricks. I love second hand and vintage pieces and prefer these to new things…I like things that are perfectly imperfect, like faded, dried flowers….They are beautiful when they are fresh and vibrant and full of life force…But when they change colour, droop, fade and die they can be just as beautiful in a different way.

THE DOTTI EFFECT

WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE ARE YOU NOW? //

Australian born makeup artist residing in wonderful New York.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //

What I am working on right now, on a personal level, is a blog about beauty from within. It’s an important subject to me as I have a great passion for skin with a glow. Also makeup tips.

This also includes how we eat and exercise. I am also asking friends to share there thoughts and secrets on how they apply these things to everyday life.

Just sharing the good things around I suppose. Sweet and simple.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE AND YOUR HOME SPACE //

My head space is full of everything that makes we whirl around this planet with clarity, creativity, humour, empathy and the passion for learning and openess to sharing.

My home space is calm and a uncluttered place where I create and forget about time with great pleasure. It’s my tree house.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //

With humour and empathy along with my long floating dresses. It’s all a start. Who knows where it shall lead but I know I make someone smile at least once a day.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //

I have always looked at change to be a beautiful thing and not to be feared. I really embrace it whole heartedly. I see life at times through rose tinted glasses.

What we observer is not nature itself but nature exposed to our method of questioning.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //

To live this life to the fullest and not to be fearful. Laughter is my secret weapon.

I shall continue to spread my wings and fly this world many a time over to spread my Dotti fairy dust and find more pirates like me.

I have a Yeats poem I treasure for its simplicity. It reminds me to be true to myself and those I hold dear to my heart:

“Cloths of Heaven
Had I the heaven’s embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden thread and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths,
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the clothes under your feet;
But I, being poor have only my dreams ;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.”

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //

My friendships with my friends inspire me. I have a circle of creative, honest and passionate friends who keep me open. We share this spirit for life and support for all journeys.

I grew up in nature so I would see the brightness of new life and crumbling of its beauty. This inspires me for there is beauty in all aspects regarding what stage nature is at.

My eyes and imagination are always on the alert because there is great pleasure in the racing of the heart when you are taken off guard and placed before a vision that brings feelings you did not expect.

The Jonni Pollard Effect

One thing that really inspires me in my life is the people that radiate true joy, passion and possibility. After years of work on my own HEADSPACE I now attract more of these incredible people into my life. I want to offer some insight into their lives by asking each of them the same questions. Their answers are often profound and allow us all to be inspired by their ‘EFFECT’. I’m lucky to have met these people (some of whom are close friends) who remind me to live my dream. Enjoy.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION? //

Purpose:: To evolve my individual state of consciousness as swiftly and gracefully as possible whilst constantly remaining relevant to the greatest need of the time.

Passion:: To effect change in people and the environment that may give rise to our highest attributes and enables us to flourish in accordance with our magnificently innovative empathetic nature.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? //

I’m working on a global research and education initiative called ’1 Giant Mind’.

Our mission is to unite 100 million people from all over the world in simultaneous ‘eyes closed silence’ and, with the world’s leading scientists, study the effect.

There are reams of studies that demonstrate that when humans come together on mass, and collectively de-excite their minds, an extraordinary phenomenon occurs within the group but, most interestingly, also for those in proximity of the group.

The research repeatedly reveals that an effect of coherence and orderliness is created by the group, which has a significant effect on human behavior and physiology. Subsequently, there were significant reductions in crime rate, violence, accidents, fatalities and societal stress and an increase in wellbeing, social orderliness and progressive change.

The studies to date have been conducted with quite small groups ranging from 500-5000 people.

What do you think might happen when 100 million people sit in eyes closed silence all at the same?

We want to find out.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR OWN LIFE? //

In a nutshell, by allowing it. Change is our nature. To truly effect meaningful change in my own life and in the world only requires that I surrender to my deepest desires and fearlessly move in the direction of that inspiration with no attachment to outcome. This is a great formula for personal evolution.

The impulse to change or evolve is an intrinsic mechanistic function of nature’s supreme intelligence.

I recognize my individuality, my existence, as a vehicle to express nature’s desire to evolve.

Having surrendered to my most essential nature as an expression of evolution, I am able to experience change as a continuum of ever increasing innovation, adaptability, empathy and relevance to our world.

The result is happiness and fulfillment right here right now. Happiness and fulfillment are infectious.

HOW DO YOU EFFECT CHANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? //

I’m a meditation teacher. I teach people how to effortlessly have the experience of their most authentic nature and be self sufficient in sustaining it. ’1 Giant Mind’ proposes to offer this experience on mass.

DESCRIBE YOUR HEADSPACE? //

Unbounded, luminous, inspired, dynamic, evolving, fearless, challenged, rested, lively, full. The place I love to be.

DESCRIBE YOUR HOMESPACE? //

I’m travelling so much for ’1 Giant Mind’ right now that I don’t actually have a physical home. So I must revert to the old ‘Home is where the heart is’ cliché, which I just described above in ‘Headspace’. Many years ago I did a lot of internal renovations and knocked out all the walls between the headspace and the heart space and made it one big open living space. I had sky lights put in and floor to ceiling windows to take full advantage of the sweeping cosmic views. I’m perpetually expanding and redecorating but there is an essential constant that truly makes it my home.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? //

I’m very inspired by people who use their skills, talents and resources to accomplish something significant that derives benefits first and foremost for as many people as possible.

I’m inspired to be alive and to participate in this mind blowing experiences we call life. Every moment has nectar within it. Everyone and everything. If something isn’t inspiring me, it’s a failure on my own part to identify its meaning and relevance. If something exists, it has meaning and relevance. It’s my choice as to whether I am inspired by something or not. Sometimes it may require digging a little deeper for the diamonds but you can guarantee, they are always there if you can be bothered looking. The cultivation of inspiration is a real art form and I have have found that, like any art form I’ve attempted, it requires a little discipline to refine the skill.
